Adding Links to Your Web Page

A hyperlink is a reference or link from one particular point in a web page file to particular point in another file OR another place in the same file. When a user clicks on the link in your web page with the mouse, the browser will display the target of the link. Some people like to include links to the websites of their employers, schools, places that they have volunteered, etc. A link can be added to either an image or a portion of text.

Insert Link ButtonTo create a hyperlink:

1. In the content area of your web page, select text/image to create the link on
2. Click the "Insert Link" icon. The file manager popup window will appear - see below.

Insert Link Box

1. Type the full URL of the page you want to link to in the "Link Location" box. Full URL means that it needs to start with "http://" - e.g. "http://www.companya.com".

2. Optionally, you can select a "Target Window" from the "Target Window" dropdown menu. Sometimes people like links to a different website to open in a new window, so that your website will remain open on in the current browser window while the viewer browses the new website. If you would like to have the link open in a new window, select "New Window" from the dropdown menu. If left blank, the default option will replace the current web page with the link location in the viewer's web browser. The "Anchor" and "Style" options can generally be left blank.

3. In addition to linking to other websites, you can also add links to pages within your own website. For example, some people like to include links on their home page such as "to review my project management experience, visit my Experience page." or "Visit the Download page for printable versions of my resume to retain for your further reference."

To the left of the file manager window, you will see a list of the files and folders that make up your website. Select the page that you would like to link to, and that page's link location will appear in the "Link Location" box.

4. When finished, click the "Insert Link" button to insert the hyperlink you just created, or click "Remove Link" to remove an existing link.

5. Clicking "Cancel" will close the window and take you back to the editor.

To modify an existing hyperlink:

1. Select the link in your web page, and click on the "Insert Link" icon. The file manager popup window will appear.

2. If you wish to change the existing link, make your changes and select the "Insert Link" button to update the link.

3. Select "Remove Link" to remove an existing link.
